Háifoss Waterfall, one of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland, is located near Hekla volcano in the Fossardalur valley on the edge of the Southern Highland. As the Fossa river flows through the valley, it splits into two tributaries, forming Háifoss (122 meters) tall and the neighboring Granni (101 meters) before feeding into the Thjorsa River. Both can be seen from a viewing point as well as several unnamed waterfalls.
Hjálparfoss Waterfall is an amazing site where the Fossa river meets the Thjorsa River, both emerging at an opposite angle from the Hekla Volcano lava field, coalesce just before tumbling into their plunge pool. The lava field surrounding Hjalparfoss is composed of unique basalt formations making for an interesting landscape.
