North Iceland is a region of vast natural wonders from extensive geothermal activity (see Namaskard Gallery), colorful craters and numerous volcanoes, to voluminous waterfalls (see Dettifoss, Godafoss, and Vatnajokull National Park Galleries), to majestic lakes (Myvatn with its pseudo-craters, Ljosavatn with its mirror-like reflections), to dramatic basalt formations, (see Dimmuborgir Gallery), and columns. In addition, the Akureyri Botanic Garden includes a range of foliage and flowers conducive to survival around the Arctic Circle.
