Kirkjufell, a stunning mountain near Grundarfjordur town on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula (see Gallery), is one of the most photographed locations in Iceland. Enhancing this vista is the river flowing under an aged bridge leading to cascades of Kirkjufellsfoss waterfalls flowing into a lake and then to the sea. What gives Kirkjufellsfoss its unique charm is the breath-taking scene it creates with Mt. Kirkjufell from an angle depicting its triangle-shaped side.
Other nearby attractions are Grundarfoss and Kvernarfoss waterfalls which sit among vast fields and plains of green foliage with majestic mountains in the background.
