Gygjarfoss, one of several impressive Highlands waterfalls, is easily accessible on the Kjolur road leading to Kerlingarfjöll (see Gallery). Although it is only about 5 meters high and 20 meters wide, Gygjarfoss is fed by the powerful Jokulfall river originating in Hofsjokull glacier. Eventually, the river joins the mighty Hvítá river, home of Gullfoss waterfall (see Gallery). The area around Gýgjarfoss is also quite impressive, with the background mountains, a fascinating gorge downstream and several distant glaciers.
