Sigöldugljúfur Canyon, an oasis in The Highlands of Iceland, is often referred to as the Valley of Tears with its lush wall of many small spring-fed streams, small ponds and waterfalls (named Lekafossar). Once filled with the turquoise water of the Tungnaa River, Sigöldugljúfur was not always a canyon. Installation of the Sigala hydroelectric station changed the surrounding area with the river water level being drastically reduced. This stunning canyon, with its towering cliffs and rugged terrain, is on the route to the famed natural wonder, Landmannalaugar (see Gallery).
