Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, known as the "Crown Jewel of Iceland" and a key element of Vatnajokull National Park (see Gallery), is the deepest and most spectacular glacial lake in Iceland. It is formed naturally from melted glacial water and is constantly growing with large blocks of ice calving from the ever-shrinking glacier. The lake is full of broken icebergs--some blue in color and streaked black--floating with the tide, occasionally breaking apart in a loud crash. This makes the lagoon and nearby glacier tongue even more special, as they will be different each time you visit.
