Gjain, an oasis on the edge of the Highlands in Thjorsardalur valley, is known as the Most Beautiful Place in Iceland. Having briefly seen Gjain from a distance on my first visit to Iceland, I had vowed to return and experience it fully. With its breath-taking views and scenic beauty, Gjain is a small tranquil valley with a plethora of flowing waterfalls, rivers and rivulets contrasted against the many forms of lava from caves to formations to basalt columns. The Rauda (Red) river runs thru the valley with its cascading Gjarfoss along with another smaller waterfall.
