Kolugljúfur canyon or gorge, in northwest Iceland, is a hidden gem near the Ring Road with its complex of cascading waterfalls and angular perspectives. About 40-50 meters in depth and a kilometer long, Kolugljufur is also one of the more dangerous tourist spots and care should be taken to keep your distance from the cliff edge in spite of the amazing views. From a parking lot by the main road, cross the bridge for an engaging view of the waterfalls, known collectively as Kolufossar, along the Vididalsa river. Walking under the bridge and into the rugged canyon, one can see potholes, additional waterfalls and viewpoints.
