Hjálparfoss Waterfall is an amazing site where the Fossa river meets the Thjorsa River, both emerging at an opposite angle from the Hekla Volcano lava field, coalesce just before tumbling into their plunge pool. Hjalparfoss is one of several natural wonders in South Iceland’s Thjorsardalur Valley (and its inner Fossadalur Valley) including Haifoss Waterfall (see Gallery) and Gjain Valley (see Gallery). The lava field surrounding Hjalparfoss is composed of unique basalt formations making for an amazing landscape.
